Galvanizing Technical Data
Bath Size Maximum Material Dimensions
7.2m long 9.9m long Double Dip Length
1.7m wide 1.5m wide Single Dip Length
2.75m deep 2.5 high Single Dip Length
Double dip materials are immersed first one way then the other to coat the full length.
Surface Contamination
Paint, oil and grease have to be removed before the galvanizing process to provide a clean steel surface to ensure good hot dip galvanizing.
Distortion
Distortion cannot be ruled out during the galvanizing of any component due to expansion and contraction.
Mesh - weld every other wire in the mesh to reduce possible distortion.
Venting
Every sealed section of a fabricated structure must be vented for reasons of safety and to allow access and drainage of molten zinc. Holes should be as close as possible to the sealed end and on opposite sides of the section. The larger the hole size the better the drainage, the better the finish.
Select 'Download Brochures' for Fabricators Handbook.
Structural Steel
External stiffeners, welded gussets, webs on columns, beams and gussets in channel sections should have their corners cropped. This will aid access and drainage of molten zinc and a cleaner coating will be obtained.
Re-Galvanizing
Any material which is fabricated with black steel and galvanized steel that requires to be galvanized must be stripped back to base material.
This is to ensure that when the material is processed through the galvanizing bath the metallurgical reaction between base material and zinc occurs thus ensuring your material is processed to BS ISO 1461.
